COSCI Range Safety Rules

Safety 1st and with that in mind here are just a few of the many rules to guide you while visiting The Canyon Oaks Sportsman's Club

Cold Range

COSC is considered a "Cold Range". No firearms shall be loaded except at the firing line. Shooting is only permitted at the direction of the designated targets or towards the targets instructed by the Range Officer if within an organized shooting activity.

During a "cease fire", all firearms will be immediately cleared, magazines removed, and benched, holstered, or grounded. All persons will stand clear of any firearms, and firearms will not be handled while anyone is forward of the firing line.

No person shall move forward of the firing line during a "cease fire" until directed to do so by the Range Safety Officer.

Shooting is permitted only at approved targets at one of the designated firing ranges.

The Range Safety Officer may prohibit the use of any firearm, ammunition, equipment, or shooting practice which is determined to be unsafe.

Any person shall immediately call a "cease fire" upon observing any unsafe condition.

Firearms will always be handled in a safe manner with muzzles kept pointed in a safe direction or downrange at all times.

Tracer, armor piercing, incendiary, and explosive ammunition are strictly prohibited.

The Range Safety Officer on duty is responsible for safety and has ultimate authority on the range. Failure to comply with the instructions may result in expulsion from the facility.

In order to maintain a safe and clean environment for all users of the Lopez Canyon Range facility, all members and guests shall be responsible for area clean-up, safe shooting practices, and the preservation of the area and its facilities. Persons observed to be careless, destructive, negligent, or who leave their trash behind shall be determined to be in violation of the Range Rules.

All allegations of rule violations by a club member or guest are investigated by the board of directors with their findings presented to the general membership for consideration. Violation of Range Rules is punishable by up to $50 fine, suspension of club membership, or expulsion from the Range.
